PRIBL Winter/Spring Professional Development League – FAQ

What is PRIBL?

The Puerto Rico Independent Baseball League (A Winter/Spring Professional Development League) is a short-season baseball league in Puerto Rico designed to help players stay game-ready, develop with structure, and gain meaningful exposure ahead of Spring Training.

Program Overview

Dates & Location
  • Dates: March 1, 2026 – April 6, 2026

  • Location: Estadio Luis A. “Canena” Márquez, Aguadilla, Puerto Rico

Is this a showcase or a one-day tryout?

No. PRIBL is a structured league environment with daily training, real-game competition, ongoing evaluation, and official statistics—not a single-day event.

What should I expect during PRIBL?

Players will participate in a structured professional environment that includes position-specific workouts, pitching/catching work, defensive sessions, batting practice/live ABs (as scheduled), and daily games with official statistics. The goal is to keep players in rhythm, improve performance, and arrive game-ready heading into Spring Training.

Who is this program for?

Players 18 years or older with professional or high-level competitive backgrounds who want to stay active, in rhythm, and visible heading into the next season.

Can I participate if I’m already under contract?

Yes. Contracted players use PRIBL to arrive at Spring Training game-ready, with timing and rhythm that can provide an edge in roster competition.

How does PRIBL help unsigned players?

PRIBL provides a competitive environment with official games, statistics, and exposure to decision-makers—built to support players pursuing their next opportunity through performance and readiness.

Roster & Competition Format

How many players will be accepted?

Participant Limit: 96 players across four teams:

  • 48 Pitchers

  • 8 Catchers

  • 16 Outfielders

  • 16 Middle Infielders

  • 4 First Basemen

  • 4 Third Basemen

**Registration remains open until all roster spots are filled.

How many games will we play?
  • 24 regular-season games with certified umpires

  • All-Star Game + Playoffs (single elimination) and a Championship Game

How is playing time and game format managed?

PRIBL uses a structured format intended to create equitable opportunities throughout the regular season, including lineup guidelines and pitching workload rules.

Pitchers: Will I be used as a starter or a reliever?

Roles are determined by roster needs, player background, and competitive context. Pitching usage follows league structure and workload guidelines designed to support readiness and keep arms progressing through the season.

Will I get enough reps to be evaluated?

PRIBL is designed to create consistent, game-based opportunities through structured competition and daily work so players can be evaluated over time—not in a single workout.

Development, Technology & Evaluation

What training is included?

PRIBL includes position-specific training with specialized instructors (pitching, catching, infield, outfield, hitting, and situational work). The program also includes daily professional training and additional support such as pitching instruction under NPA protocols, biomechanics, yoga, and speed & agility.

What technology/metrics are used?

We use the SmartPark system (Win Reality Smart Field) to capture stadium-based metrics, including:

  • Pitching: velocity, spin rate, break, release point

  • Hitting: exit velocity, launch angle, and other ball-flight metrics

Will players receive metrics or reports?

SmartPark data is collected during the program. Availability of reports or deliverables may vary by position and schedule.

Who will be evaluating players?

PRIBL provides exposure to representatives and managers from Partner Leagues, including the Pioneer League, Frontier League, American Association, and Atlantic League, and has a track record of attracting MLB scouts (22 MLB scouts attended last season’s event). Scheduled evaluation days are also included in the league structure.

Is exposure guaranteed?

No program can guarantee a contract or tryout. PRIBL provides a professional environment, official games, metrics, and visibility to decision-makers—opportunity is earned through performance and readiness.

Selection, Registration & Next Step

Is there a selection process?

Yes. Roster spots are limited and allocated based on position needs and player background. Completing the interest form is required for consideration, but acceptance is not guaranteed.

What’s the next step to be considered?

To request priority consideration, complete the Prospective Player Interest Form. This starts the evaluation and roster consideration process and allows our staff to begin early planning and visibility before the season.

What happens after I submit the form?

Your information has been received by PRIBL, and our staff will follow up on the next steps or if additional information is needed. Email is the primary communication channel—please check it regularly.

When does registration close?

Registration remains open until all roster spots are filled. Because roster spots are limited, they can close quickly.

Expectations

Why Puerto Rico?

Puerto Rico offers ideal winter baseball conditions: professional stadiums, great weather, strong baseball culture, and a highly active scouting environment. It’s a proven setting for competing, developing, and staying visible.

What is the advantage of playing instead of waiting at home?

Players who stay active in real games maintain timing, sharpen decision-making under pressure, and arrive at Spring Training with momentum—improving their ability to compete for roles and opportunities.

Does PRIBL guarantee contracts or tryouts?

No. PRIBL provides a professional environment, official games, and meaningful exposure, but contracts/tryouts depend on player performance, roster needs, and organization decisions.
