Puerto Rico Independent Baseball League Unveils Team Names

by PRIBL Media

SAN JUAN, PR - The Puerto Rico Independent Baseball League (PRIBL), which seeks to bring the excitement, competition, and family entertainment of independent professional baseball to Puerto Rico in 2021, revealed the four inaugurals' official names and mascots logos of teams. The announcement was made through a virtual meeting between the league executives.

The teams named today are:

  • Pelicanos de Rincón: The Pelicanos are the official bird of the city of Rincón.
  • Taínos de Mayaguez: The Taínos was the name of the indigenous people who lived in Puerto Rico and some other Caribbean regions.
  • Conquistadores de Aguada: The name represents the Spanish conquest in Puerto Rico.
  • Peregrinos de Hormigueros: It is called Peregrinos to those travelers who are on a journey to a holy place. The name represents the people from all over who come to Hormigueros to show their devotion to the Virgin of Montserrat and to celebrate her miracles.

"We had different names on the table, but in the end, we just concentrated on selecting those that were related in some way to the history, identity, or symbol of those cities," said PRIBL president Carlos Núñez.

PRIBL invites the community to contribute with suggestions to select colors and the design of the uniforms. Anyone interested in contributing to this phase can communicate through the league's email at info@puertoricoproleague.com.
